Information event held for arts project for the elderly

Home Service – a project aiming to give older people living in care homes access to high quality arts experiences held an information event last month.

You may have heard about the success of Arts & Health Cornwall in being awarded 3 years funding for their project “Home Service” which aims to give older people living in care homes access to high quality arts experiences?

With £256,000 in funding from Arts Council England and The Baring Foundation, Home Service is being delivered through a collaboration between arts and care organisations from Cornwall and beyond which include: Arts for Health Cornwall in Penryn; Hall for Cornwall and KEAP in Truro; Newlyn Art Gallery;Wren Music in Okehampton; Falmouth University in Falmouth; as well as Brunel Care in Bristol and us – Creativity Works, in B&NES.

These partners will be working with a range of artists to deliver high quality creative projects to engage, invigorate and give a voice to older people in residential settings, which includes care homes through the scheme’s two care partners – Cornwall Care who are Cornwall wide and Anson Care in Redruth, Penzance and Portreath.

On the 24th March the organisers welcomed artists, care homes, care providers and those interested in joining the collaboration to the event, which took place from 2-5pm at Crossroads House in Scorrier.

Jayne Howard, Director of Arts for Health Cornwall, said:

“We were thrilled to see so many artists, care home providers and health professionals in attendance on the day. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to provide more information on how others can get involved in the programme. Everyone was extremely passionate about providing older people living in residential settings with the chance to engage with a wide range of arts and cultural opportunities.”

Mary Anson, Managing Partner of Anson Care Homes said:

“We were delighted to host this event at Crossroads House. Home Service will make a huge difference to the health and well-being of residents throughout Cornwall and beyond. We would like to say a huge thank you to Arts Council England and the Baring Foundation for funding this pioneering project, as this means that it will be free for care homes to utilise.”

The day was an opportunity to network whilst providing a chance for artists and care homes providers to put forward their ideas for Home Service, whilst asking the partner organisations any questions.

Jo McIntosh, Textiles Artist at Knit One Weave One in St Ives, who attended said:

“It was a brilliant afternoon, filled with so much information about this inspiring new project. It is clear that Home Service will help to enhance the lives of residents currently living in care homes. The day also provided us with the opportunity to network with all those involved and put forward any ideas that we have for the scheme.”
