Our new Creative Wellbeing Projects Assistant Laura has rounded up the latest news from our Creative Wellbeing Groups.
Threads through Creation
Last month, two of our peer-led groups, Thursday Threads and Crafty Minds were invited by Bath Abbey for a tour of their ‘Threads through Creation,’ an exhibition of spectacular work by textile artist Jaqui Parkinson. It is a retelling of the creation story using a vibrant sequence of twelve silk panels that were three years in the making. It was a fantastic day for everyone, not only getting to view the work but a guided tour provided a deeper insight into the artist’s process. The group was left bursting with ideas for their own creations and inspired by the idea of working with silk in the future. The exhibition is on until the 19th of March at Bath Abbey.
Snap & Stroll: Through Our Eyes
Our photography group have been hard at work preparing for a series of exhibitions at Temple Street Cafe in Keynsham. The first one begins on the 7th March, titled Snap & Stroll: Through our Eyes, which will explore angles and the abstract. In preparation for writing the exhibition descriptions, I ran a creative writing workshop with the group. Along with writing in response to photos, they produced a collaborative poem titled ‘When I am Snap & Strolling I am…’ their beautiful words and metaphors giving the reader a vivid sense of how much the group means to them.
When I am Snap and Strolling I am…
A predator, hunting for visual prey
I am filled with joy at the grandeur of creation and the kaleidoscope of colours around me
I am an oasis of familiar territory with people becoming friends
I feel peace, I feel at ease with the people around me and with myself
I snap a few photos but don’t get down to it!
I am searching the land both aware of my entire environment and my presence in it
When I am snap and strolling it’s nice to get away from home and great to be with different people
I am finding novel within the familiar, both humans and landscape
Writing for Wellbeing with Bath MIND
We have just come to the end of a vibrant and dynamic Writing for Wellbeing series run in partnership with Bath Mind. The group was led by creative writing facilitator and Community Wellbeing Support and Development Coordinator Roz, and each week the group were led through a series of creative prompts focused around the senses. From writing in response to music to writing odes to our favorite foods. Reflecting on the experience Roz shared some thoughts with us:
‘It is always a humbling experience to witness our group members write together and share their authentic selves through written words’ – Roz, Facilitator, Bath Mind
